These reindeers looks very different from those I usually see in photos. I never knew reindeers has so many uses and their meat can be eaten. Thank you for the extra info.
Hi Autumn Belle glad you enjoyed my little bit away from my garden but just abit further up the road from me.
Our male and female reindeer grow antlers rather than some species where its only the males that grow them.
I only wish I had taken more photos - I was so shocked at how friendly and tame they were and they did not mind me and the family walking amongst them. It was a great experience normally they are further up the mountain and we can't get as close to them.
Wow!Love it.

Rosie, they are friendly because Santa wouldn't have it any other way! (Except they are not friendly to poor Rudolph)
I've just noticed that that reindeer in the main picture is missing one of its antlers.
Don't think I'll tell my grandson that reindeer meat can be eaten. He might start worrying about Rudolph:)
Very interesting post and amazing photos.

They are quite different to the white-tailed deer we have roaming around in our Pennsylvania gardens, eating everything in sight. I wouldn't mind seeing a few of these deer!
They look so humble and sweet somehow. I'm not even sure how to describe that, but I get quite a different feeling from looking at them than from encounters with the native deer around here. Maybe it's a wild versus tame thing?
I love that they're all named and allowed you to walk among them, tho. :)
Hi Rosie,
Reindeer in Scotland? I just had to call my kids to show them the photo. Two of them still believe in Santa Claus ;^)
...and they seem so skinny. Scotland meadows are very beautiful as i saw them on magazines. They resemble our islands in the northernmost part of the Philippines, we call Batanes group of islands. It is a bit isolated that very few from the central cities were able to visit. When we were there, we said, 'we are now in Scotland'!
Dear Rosie, Such wonderful pictures which make the deer look so appealing. However, living in London, I am always secretly glad that deer are not the problem for gardeners that they are in so many other parts of the country. Some of my friends, living close to the New Forest, despair.
Amazing photos! But is it just me or do those deer look cold? Probably a good indication of just how cold it is in Scotland right now!
it looks very cold there. I had no idea reindeer lived in Scotland.
Hello Rosie, and nice shots! The deer around our house simply hang out at the gate, lying in wait for us to open it, but not a chance! lol They do appear so tame and one in particular stands and plays "who can blink first" with the neighbors dog.
So cool! :)
I'd love to think up some new reindeer names...
Hello Rosie, These are Santa's deer! How fun to see them. It must have been so amazing to see these creatures in person. I want to answer your question from my Butterfly post... they were flying all around me but I did not notice if by staying longer they came closer... sounds like you may have had that experience. I will note this next time. ;>) Carol
That’s so cool, I didn’t you had reindeers in Scotland
