Galanthus nivalis 'Flore Pleno' - the Snowdrop Waltz.

Shall we have a Snowdrop Waltz today?  I am glad to say that today the Galanthus nivalis "Flore Pleno” snowdrops finally made their “debutante” appearance in the leavesnbloom garden.  They may look shy with their nodding heads awaiting their pollinator “beau” .  But underneath those outer scalloped petals that look like a silk organza ballgown are cascades of ruffles like a crinoline petticoat.

The snowdrops sure know how to entice with their subtle scent of honey once the sun starts shining and with their alternating stripes of green  to which any pollinator “beau” sees as  a glow of ultraviolet  and irresistible.

Let the dancing begin!

Perfect dancer.... and look at the softness of colour , all are of light tone, blending into a central theme... light soothing green. ~bangchik

Hi Rosie, I love all the detail you were able to capture in your photos. They are certainly sweet!

Oh, Rosie, galanthus make me so instantly happy. It doesn't matter how many photos of them I see, they're just the perfect epitome of spring and thoughts of spring. Gorgeously shot.

I love the snowdrops colors, how they're green in the middle then white and the kinda frilly edges of the petals. :)

She's such a romantic girl
As she watches flowers twirl!
Is that a Minuet I hear?
Three quarter time, my dear?
Oh! My slippers begin to dance
As I, too, am filled with romance!

I have been telling everyone that when i see the snowdrops for the first time, i am hooked by it. Just like the Bird's Tour Guide asking us our spark bird, here for plants, it is my spark flower! That's why i am really not only enticed but smitten by them. So sad i have seen them only once in Turkey and might not see them again, so i just content myself in blogposts like yours. I didn't know they are scented though. Imagine, it took me very very long to open your blog, i wonder why! And even now that i am typing the comment the 2nd collage has not fully opened yet. Maybe they are so heavy! The title is so apt, waltzing snowdrops, how lovely. Last Saturday i was browsing on blogs the whole day to the tune of the music in the via-satellite coverage of Olympics Figure Skating. I tell you it was so a very wonderful experience. Your waltz reminds me of that feeling. thanks.

Beautiful photographs Rosie. I have to admit, I think this winter that snowdrops have become my new favorite flower. I don't have any growing here, but I'm becoming very determined to try!

yeah today has been the warmest day this year in the garden - 7 degrees C.

I agree Bangchik they are just perfect in their colouring.

Thanks Gardening Assylum I was pleased with the way the photos turned out as I have found it hard to get a good pic of a snowdrop.

Jodi they're a sure sign that spring is on its way

Lisa thankyou for visiting and thanks for hosting the meme.

AprilSince I know you are an award winning poet - Is that one of your original little bits of poetry?

James I like the tutu imagery

Noelle so far I've not seen any bees in the garden - but I'm not in it alot these days other than to fill up the bird feeders.

Andrea sorry that the pages took so long to open for you - maybe it was a problem with where I host the images but glad that you stayed around long enough to see my favourite photos in the 2nd collage.

Edith they really are

Deborah I hope you see your snowdrops soon.

Melanie thanks - I was on my tummy lying on the frosted ground doing this - talk about getting up close and personal to a snowdrop - my neighbour across the road was watching me and must have thought I was mad - but they do read the blog so he knew what I was up to.

Curbstone Valley they are really worth growing. Glad that I am helping you make that decision.

Your snowdrops are pretty. Now, I know what it looks like whenever I hum this song...

Snowdrops and daffodils, butterflies and bees
Sail boats and fishermen, things of the sea
Wishing wells, wedding bells, early morning dew
All kinds of everything reminds me of you!

Thanks Amy for the compliment

Autumn Belle I put this on your blog too but I was going to put a youtube video of Dana singing that song at the Eurovision Song Contest but was not sure if anyone would know it. I used to play that song on the piano.
