I've got my beady eye on you!

This month I wasn't sure if I would take part in the Picture this Photo competition over at Gardening Gone Wild but  I decided otherwise at the last minute.   For me its the taking part that counts rather than winning - and I must say that some of the submissions are stunning and its worth going over and having a little browse at all the entries.  The theme for June  is  "The Best Frame You Have Ever Created."  and for me that mean't  using a photo from June 2010 as I try to improve on my photography skills all of the time.

The picture above is my submission for this month.

As I was walking along the Lade nearly 2 weeks ago to my delight I finally found a lacewing and thankgoodness that I had my camera with me at the time! I loved its little beady eye watching me as I took the photographs.

I think I took my camera to its limits with this photo

Most of you have read my whimsical post about encouraging the lacewings into my garden - now I know they are in my locality so it hopefully won't  be too long before they find my lacewing hotel.  I'll have to think of some marketing strategy to get them here!  Well there are plenty of aphids here waiting for them just look at the feast that awaits them!

I hope they come soon!

Very Clever! Terrific photos too. Good luck with your marketing and with the photo contest. ;>)

OK, I say photo #2 of that beady eye is a winner! I don't know if I would allow aphids in my garden just to attract lacewings, though. Eww!

Rosie, your lacewing is beautiful! I found a Katydid nymph on our squash blossoms today, and of course, went all paparazzi on the poor thing. My primary goal was to get the eyes in focus, without that, the image isn't quite right. I love your pictures! Now though...I have to question WHY the Katydid was hanging out on our squash blossoms LOL!

Great photos. If they are lacewings with any taste, they will be sure to take up residence on your lacewing hotel!

I LOVE the second photo - he's looking right into the camera.

Dear Rosie, What a magical image. How fortunate to have had your camera with you just at the right moment. Now you must set about filling the 'hotel'.

What a nice insect! The insects here are usually bees, butterflies and dragonflies. No lacewings etc.

The first one would make a great entry but I think your second pic is AWESOME! So cool....

Lovely photo Rosie - so glad you decided to join in the fun! the first time I saw a lace wing I thought it was a super-sized aphid. Thankfully, I have a policy of not killing anything unless I know that it is bad for my garden - the species on my hit list are really just slugs and snails (I'm a broken record on this subject - but better than a broken woman!)
I now have lots of lacewings and lady bugs and I occasionally see aphids but I leave them for the gardeners friends to deal with!

I'm sorry for deleting the comment above, but I found some mistakes.

What I want to say is your lacewing looks awesome, and like you, I rather enjoy the challenge than the winning.

Also, thanks for identifying the flowers on Blessing Reflections. Much appreciated!

NICE, Rosie!! This lacewing is posing for you and you captured it in such a fantastic way! Good luck with the contest!

Beautiful first photo, but maybe you need a grand battalion to outsmart those aphids. They are already in big numbers and am sure there's a lot more in other plants. I hope they will not pose big problems with your plants. They are our enemies here too! Good luck for the contest.

I often get a probia looking at insects in my garden (except for butterflies)
Somehow, I find yours cute.

Good luck in your contest.

Rosie, what great photographs, so cool. Good luck with the contest, and good luck enticing them into your garden for the all you can eat buffet.

hello Rosie -super shot of this pretty creature and a good contender.

Never noticed its eyes before but I am sure they will spot the delights of your 'hotel'. Have to warn you Lacewings taste awful - I was the kind of child that ran round with my mouth open and more often than not, one would fly in. Moral - keep mouth shut around Lacewings

Hi Rosie,

I am always happy when I see lacewings in my garden. I actually have two that have taken up residence in my kitchen. I wonder if they are hovering around my African Violets or Orchids. They seem happy so far.

I can't believe the photo you were able to get of one looking right at you....amazing!
