August Garden Bloggers Bloom Day at leavesnbloom

There are blooms galore in the garden this August time.

Yesterday at last I got to spend some time amongst them weeding and deadheading.  Since we've had a gloomy wet summer its been hard to get into the garden to weed but the weeds were so easy to pull up as they were nice and big. My yellow standard rose had to get dug out as it was another very late casualty from last winter and a Corylus avellana Contorta 'Red Majestic' was planted in its place.

Butterfly Garden

Butterflies flutter about in the garden like petals blowing in the wind.  The Great and Small Whites chase each other while the Peacock butterflies have finally made their presence known in the garden. The 6ft long drift of a mixture of  Verbena bonariensis  and Verbena hastata "Blue Spires" is extremley popular at this time of year and a great place to photograph a butterfly nectaring.

Great White

Peacock

Annuals

There are lots of containers planted with summer annuals like marguerites, oestospermums, surfinias and impatiens.

As for the rest its in my 3D gallery wall again this month as I did say there were lots of blooms................
Just click on any of the pictures and within a few seconds the photo will become clearer   (press button on right of 3D wall to make it full screen) and  enjoy the glide. For more blooms across the world on the 15th of each  month please vist Carol for GBBD.

Diversification in the Garden

I always have a camera at the ready  ..............  since sun parasols have had no useful purpose for the past few weeks my neighbour decided this week to put hers to good use .........................

Hope the sun shines on you this blessed Sunday.

Your blooms are beautiful, Rosie. I particularly like the vignette with the wagon wheel behind the blooms. That Peacock butterfly is gorgeous too.

Marvellous ... marvellous ... marvellous! Just too much to comment on!
Oh alright ... I will say that I really love your Prunella, Shasta Daisy and white Pansy mingling! Simply beautiful!
So many lovely Annuals too. How wonderful are those two butterflies ... new ones for me!
Was tickled pink by your neighbour's sense of humour ... at least it's useful for something!

Really pretty blooms. Are those white flowers shasta daisies or marguerite daisies? So cute.

Hey, Rosie! Love your August blooms! I'm really loving those annuals surrounding the old wagon wheel...really beautiful and welcoming!

Rosie, your butterfly photos are magnificent! The Peacock butterfly is stunning, and looks almost like a tropical species with its beautiful colors and wing patterns. I, too, been photographing butterflies around our property recently and posted some of those pictures in my latest blog entry. Many are quite tiny (thumbnail-sized), but still manage to hold their own in the beauty department. I look forward to seeing more photos of these lovely creatures in your garden.

Hello Rosie - you may not have had much of a summer but instead you have a wealth of summer blooms and butterflies. I would swap my arid desert with you any day.I guess your neighbour approved the humorous pic of keeping the washing dry! :)

I echo the above sentiments - everything is indeed beautiful! I love those sashta daisies, and the butterfly garden.

I love going to blogs in other parts of the world and seeing which butterflies fly there, along with which flowers are most popular. Your garden looks beautiful with all those blooms. Happy Bloom Day, and have a blessed Sunday.

Love your blog and the happy, colorful and interactive banner. Gardens from around the world have such interesting and different garden inhabitants. The butterfly images are beautiful as are your gardens.

LOL, the parasol covering the laundry is great! Pretty blooms you have growing. Our snow peas should be ready to harvest early October!

Hi Rosie. Wow, what a beautiful butterfly the Peacock is. I have never saw one before. Your containers look so beautiful while mine are looking so sad. Love the Oseospermum.

Too weird! I just came from 'Birds'n'Such where Mike wrote about butterflies and the severe drought! Both of you have beautiful photos today, but you're complaining about "too wet" and he's complaining about "too dry". :-D Love you, girl!

Beautiful blooms again Rosie, the last floral decoration is is amazing and, of course, all the flowers in the wall.
The last scene at your neighbor's is the winner though.
With so much rain you have one job less to do: you don't need to water your flowers.

Your parade of blooms are beautiful on this blessed Sunday, as was your colorful slide show, Rosie. Thank you for sharing ... it's a delight to visit gardens, isn't it!

What a bounty of blooms you have, Rosie! Your annuals all look so lush and vibrant, and I love the planting in front of the old wagon wheel. Our summer has been the opposite and has been so hot and dry--I'd gladly take a little less sunshine right now and a little more rain. Your garden has obviously enjoyed the weather.

The peacock is such a beautiful butterfly--I don't think we have these in the U.S. We have a Buckeye, which looks somewhat similar, but isn't nearly as colorful.

Rosie - i love the way you put them into a collage, as i still don't know how to make them, hehe. I have not been going home to the province for 2 months and when i finally did this weekend i was so surprised to see a lot of swarming butterflies in the morning till noon. How lovely to look at them flying at the same time. Different colors frequent different sites while some mingle with most. It was really enchanting, ah maybe i would title my next blog as Enchanting Butterflies, hehe.

You have such a beautiful garden! So many different flowers and butterflies. I love them.

Beautiful blooms and butterflies, Rosie! I let my weeding go waaayyy too long this summer for various reasons, and I agree, one advantage is that they are now tall and thus easier to pull. Your Great White looks a lot like our Great Southern White. Does yours have the electric blue tips on its antennae?

I see your prunella and I shudder. That stuff spreads like crazy in my yard! I'm constantly ripping it out where it doesn't belong. Having said that, it looks great in your photo! Thanks for the welcome to NBN.

Hi Rosie,
You have a very interesting blog! Your butterfly pictures are gorgeous!
Thank you for visiting my blog, and to answer your question: No the Clivia plant belongs to my sister. A friend gave her a start of it years ago and she keeps it in her greenhouse. She has promised to give me a start of it, but my thumb is not as green as hers!

Such lovely color in your garden. I especially like the picture of the peacock butterfly on the sedum.

Your container plants are so beautiful! You have an amazing array of blooms! I like the arrangement with the wheel. And gorgeous butterfly shots! I don't think the Peacock butterfly is seen around here. But we have one called Peacock Pansy, less colourful than yours but with those eye-spots.

Loved going through all your photos!

Lovely blooms Rosie and great shots of the butterflies. It is nice that the rain is keeping the ground soft enough to easily pull weeds. My garden is hard as cement and my flowers are smaller and sparser than usual.

The garden is looking great. We have been so hot, dry and humid no ones wants to be outside...not even the flowers.

hazeltree on August 18, 2010 7:44 AM said...

ah yes, 'to nectar' is not a proper verb i believe but it ought to be...do you mind if i steal it from you?

leavesnbloom on August 18, 2010 7:55 AM said...

@hazeltree

May not be a proper verb but in the animal and insect kingdom I think it describes that function so well and so beautifully. You may if you wish start a trend :-D
